I've been with 1and1 for over 2 years now, not had one problem. There support is great and I wont be moving anytime soon, I did move to Fasthosts for a bit but I had non-stop issues so I asked for a refund and cancelled the account. Best thing i've ever done moving back to 1and1!

Just to clear up a few things above:

1) 1&1 Internet have owned Fasthosts for many years (since 2006 IIRC)
2) Fasthosts moved their support and customer service operations to Romania and The Philipines in February 2009

1 and 1 more reliable? Try reading <a href="http://www.stuffbysarah.net/blog/2006/09/12/1-and-1-vs-fasthosts/">my post on 1 and 1</a>.

2 large hosting companies, both as bad as each other. At least Fasthost's call centre seems to be in the UK.

[...] A while back I wrote about my ordeal with Fasthosts Tech Support and how they cleverly informed me that a client’s site didn’t even exist on their servers and that all servers were up and running when the next day the client’s site reappeared after we’d assumed it had been deleted. Have to say that post pulled in hundreds of visitors a couple of months ago when Fasthosts had a major outage - I wondered who was attacking my site!! [...]

[...] I have 4 websites finishing off this week (thankfully), one of which I dug the quote out for on the train on Monday and saw a date of signature from July 2005 To be fair, at this point, can I say it’s the Client that’s delayed, then their site disappeared (kinda) and so they’ve been without a site for almost 3 months. They’ve finally decided to sit down and get this site finished off, of course in the mean time I have other sites on the go too, also delayed due to clients, so they’ve all come at once (like buses really). Trouble is they’ve also changed their mind on a lot of things so now I’ve having to go through the site and completely change parts which is frustrating as this was one of my underquoted sites, and the longer it goes on the more annoying it gets. To top it off I’ve had 46 ‘items’ sent through to add to their website which definitely wasn’t part of the deal considering they have a custom built CMS to add the items theirselves. Thankfully I can pay someone else to do this whilst I fix their other changes. [...]

One of my best mates used to be one of the top dogs there and lived with Andrew Michael in his big house.

Fair play to the bloke for what he's built but he is the most arrogant w@n%*R going. He had a chauffeur, chef, bodyguard.... The company will be going downhill badly now as he's sacking most of his employees, top ones at that.

The things I know about their servers.....

I feel like swearing. I have had nothing but trouble with FH.

It got to the point where I visited their head office to deliver a document as they were insistent they never received an email (even though someone had replied to it).

Useless ****** *******!
