I was just running a test on finding a better method for seeing backlinks in Google for a site. The link:www.domain.com option returns results from your own site too which isn't very helpful! So instead I used -site:www.sarahfreelance.co.uk www.sarahfreelance.co.uk which instead brought up 12 links. Now I know this is not true as more people do link to me (thank you!), so it's back to the drawing board on that one. However the few links it did return included a link to Blogshares.com and more specifically to the stock market page for my blog.
I can only presume this is an automatic site as I've never submitted my site to it! However to see the market price of my blog rise over what I can only say is similar to my visitor stats is quite cool. By the way if anyone wants to buy it I wouldn't sell it for $6,700 I don't think. I enjoy posting on it too much

I used to play Blogshares quite a bit in the early days. I've been in the top ten Net Worth table but I've no doubt dropped back considerably seeing as I haven't played for over a year and my work connection is now blocking the site.
It was quite addictive. If you sign up yourself you can claim your blog and get free shares in it
It's free to play but with limited transactions per day. They use spiders (among other methods) to find blogs and insert them into their database. People then vote them into certain categories so it's actually a decent way to find popular blogs in certain categories.
love the new design
Changed it again Martin. I was too tired the other night to finish and opted for a different photo today
Nice clean look Sarah..as usual I still enjoy reading your blog
Have you tried going to http://www.yahoo.co.uk instead and doing a
linkdomain:www.sarahfreelance.co.uk
instead? You may find a little more exciting information that way

Annoyingly WordPress doesn't let you move comments around easily, but a quick dip into the database and I've moved your post
I know about the method of checking in yahoo and the -site method works there. But I was or am more intrigued by google. I don't see many visitors from Yahoo unfortunately, even though it's my browser of choice. The study of Google is always going to be top whilst they are, that's all clients care about – being top of Google!
Thanks for the link however, always appreciated
When I get around to updating my link pages consider yourself added
The reason for me suggesting yahoo, or even an average number from all the search engines is because Google VERY RARELY if EVER will show you all the links, info, or data that it has on a website.
This can mean that it shows you 100 backlinks when you look, but it is actually aware of 1000 backlinks. Yahoo is a more realistic number normally and you can compare this with the data from Google

I'm aware of how Google operates. It only shows backlinks for PR 3+ pages usually. However Google's rankings do still run on backlinks and quality backlinks, therefore I'm not concerned with the links Google doesn't want to show you as that's what Google deems irrelevant. I want to know what Google is thinking, what it knows, what it sees. And that is why I check Google for backlinks. I don't need to know everyone who's linking to a web site, I need to know everyone that Google deems important/relevant linking to a site because those results are what its ranking algo also uses.
It's just annoying when the results are also taken up with your own site.
