We set off today to drive back home at around 2:30pm. It was nice and sunny this morning however when we came to leave it start to rain. Within minutes we were on the M1 and the hail and rain started. We stopped after just getting on to the A50 to pick up some food for dinner and a couple of snacks for the journey as I knew there was an M & S foodhall there (I'm sorry but I adore M & S food). It was exceptionally cold when we stopped that's for sure. Once we'd picked up some dinner (half price Chicken pie for just £1.84! and some cauliflower cheese – yes I had no intention of cooking once I got home) we sat in the car and had a quick sandwich before carrying on. The snow then started.
Along the A50 to Stoke on Trent we had sunshine, rain, hail and snowfall, a great combination! We were doing great time until I came off a roundabout just outside Stoke and suddenly came to a standstill of traffic. It seems there had been an accident on the A50 and it had been completely shut. The traffic was pretty heavy because of that so I decided to take a trip across country (ever the patient one!). We drove up to Macclesfield via Leek, which is where my brother lives, handy for a pitstop. Along the way we drop along the side of the Peak District and got some nice photos of the snow on the hills.

Anyhow, we hit Macclesfield and a heavy snow fall, thankfully it didn't take us long to get to my brother's so we stopped off for a hot drink and a quick chat before driving home. Usually the journey would have taken 2-2.5 hours, it actually took 5 hours in total, but there's an hour and a bit of stoppage time there too. Suffice to say the dinner was good and I'm thankful that I didn't choose to cook a normal sunday dinner!
