Taking a Break
Wed, 12 April, 2006 – 1:23 pm
Well it's been over a week since I last posted and to be honest I won't be posting up much this month. I'm finally managing to make a dent in my client work and I've sworn not to let it get on top of me again but i've been getting pretty stressed over it all. I'm off on holiday in 3 weeks tomorrow so I'm hoping by the time I get back virtually all work will be clear and I can sit down with fresh relaxed eyes and spend a bit more time on my own sites and on here again.
In the mean time a few quick updates before I disappear from this end.
The Tattoo site seems to have picked up a lot. It appears that both Yahoo and Google Images are sending lots of visitors our way. We've sold a couple of flashes off the site which is great. I've also realised that there's no contact form on the site which is probably putting other people off from buying from us! God I'm blonde at times. So that's on my list of things to do this week. Visitors are on 300-400 a day which is great.
I've sold a couple of eBooks off my osCommerce Templates site. Nothing more. I've finished off optimising and accessibilitising (is that a word?!) an osCommerce site which is my first one so I'm intending to write up a bit of a case study on that and hopefully then push extra sales for the book or make it sound so complicated that people buy a template instead
Business has been great this past year. 70% increase in turnover, I can't wait for my tax bill to come! I've had to tell any new clients that I can't even speak to them about their sites until June, some may wait some won't, but I can't risk taking on too much again, it makes me ill, upset and badly stressed.
I've also set up a personal blog. This site was originally just personal, then I started posting up business'y stuff and experiences of AIS and it seems to have become more of a techie blog so to keep personal stuff separate I've spawned another blog at Personal Me. It's very much personal day to day stuff so probably isn't of much interest to many but I know some friends weren't interested in learning PHP (can't think why not) or SEO so I've set this up for them really! It will have some interesting tit bits in. I've got a long summer ahead of a new business, registering as a Ltd company and VAT registered, my holiday etc. So I'm hoping to cover a lot in it and ensure it's not just my boring day to day stuff! I've not decided whether to add any adsense in yet or not. I don't want to ruin the design (a very nice full screen template) and I'm thinking that it's probably not worth it anyhow. I've been creating a list of blogs that I read, if anyone's missed off please use the contact form to let me know and I'll get it added. To be honest my bookmarks and feedreader are badly organised as I've not had time to update it so I may have missed them off in places.
And finally for any money making readings, Dave at Brighton Vibes has set up a forum to discuss making money. Membership is free. – Money Making Forum.
Otherwise have a good easter and if you want to keep up with my personal life take a wonder over to my personal blog ![]()
Oh and spammers need not apply

I can empathise fully with what you say about taking on too much work – but it's really hard to say no though, isn't it? About last July I thought I was going to have a nervous breakdown, until I did a bit of serious re-assessment and prioritised what's really important in my life. You've clearly got a lot of talent, so I can understand why you find yourself in demand, but you'll be no use to anyone (least of all yourself) if you burn out. So, enjoy your break and then come back to it all feeling refreshed.
Take care, boo.
