The garden's going well. We've almost finished tidying it up and are beginning to fill in the bare grass patches too. I went out the other day to get the lettuces planted and after I'd run out of space I realised we had over 50 lettuces (including the rocket) on the go! Once they start being ready to pick we should have a steady stream for at least a month, however we may be giving some away too. I'm going to pick the last of the strawberries today and move the pot off the veggie patch to give me more space and get the last 4 lettuces planted. I'll probably start some more to take the space of the potato plants once they're ready to dig up. I'm quite enjoying growing the lettuce and will be more than chuffed to be able to give them away to people instead.
The tomato plants are beginning to flower too now. I've finally managed to tie them up to the canes and need to start feeding them once a week too so we're off to pick up some tomato feed today. The pepper plants are going strong too and I can't wait for them to start growing the peppers.
We have three potato plants that are flowering. One has been flowering for almost 2 weeks now, and there are more coming through! I didn't realise they'd flower for this long. We're itching to dig the plant up and see what's underneath, especially as the first plant is the one we grew by mistake!! Once the plant is dug up we'll also have space for another 6-8 lettuces.
The flowers that were stripped by the snails and slugs are beginning to fight back. Two of them are showing flower heads again, and two others are getting their leaves back again. The busy lizzies are also coming back to life. In total we've killed off over 100 snails from the slug pellets. When we first planted them Dave was worried it was the weedkiller he'd put down a while back, but we've proved it was the snails. I never realised they could cause so much damage. I'm glad we have such a big cannister of slug pellets now!
Next job is to weed the front garden. I may pick up some cheap flowers today from B&Q as I have £30 worth of vouchers to use there. Get the front garden weeded and plant some cheapy flowers over the place just to brighten it up. We'll just have to remember to water them at night!
