I got some free cinema tickets courtesey of the points on my credit card so Dave and I decided to take a night off and go out last night for dinner out (spending my gambling winnings) and catch a movie.

Dinner:
We went to Frankie and Benny's for dinner. The downside to these type of restaurants is that there's so much choice you want to try everything! At first I fancied pizza as their bases are thin and pretty good, but then I opted for the New York chicken, with cheese and bacon on the chicken. Dinner was good and rounded off with a nice piece of chocolate cheesecake. Came to a few pence over £45 so that was pretty accurate.

The Movie:
We both wanted to see Superman Returns and were there just in time for the next showing (the restaurant is about 10m from the cinema entrance!). Annoyingly they'd run out of bottled water in the cinema, something I guess is a good sign that plenty of people were drinking it! Anyhow, the film was pretty good, however it was quite warm in the cinema so after being in there for 2hrs 45 mins (don't forget all the adverts too!) it was getting a bit uncomfortable. However the film was good, your typical Superman story with a bit extra in as he's been away so long (and no one makes the connection that Clark Kent and Superman have both been away and both arrive back at the same time!). It give the odd giggle here and there, and a few moving moments too. Kevin Spacey was great as Lex Luthor too. The only con I can think of from the film was that at times there was a lot of CGI (computer graphic imagery – I think!) used. Okay I realise it's hard to do a lot of the flying scenes, in space etc. but it's the one thing I kept noticing, which isn't essentially that bad considering how the original films looked!

So all in all a good night out. Well worth the money that it didn't cost!
