Archive for August, 2006

It's been a bit of a busy week this week. It started great on Monday, then around 10am I had an email off someone telling me they couldn't get the work done that I needed in time for the end of the month. A bit of a let down as it means I need to sort it out now as I just don't have the time to prep anyone else on it. We have a large Joomla run web site which we're finishing off, which this other work bolts onto, and so I've also had to get a clean upload of that online onto a test domain and get it set up and fix all the little errors and issues that seems to creep in, along with trying to hack Joomla to fit the design we have (unfortunately from a set of print designers who know nothing about web sites!). So it's been a bit of a nightmare and certainly has made me realise that I don't want to take on a site of this scale again.

Anyhow, inbetween all my stress, Wednesday was the anniversay of Dave and I being together :) So we decided to take a drive out to Parkgate, on the Wirral (looks over the river Dee to North Wales) and try a fish restaurant we'd seen there before. We often go out for dinner but go to the big chains such as Frankie & Benny's, and Chiquitos, and to be honest I'm tired with those places. So we went to a small independent restaurant, and I have to say we had one of the best meals we've had since Lanzarote!

The Lobster Grill is a steak and seafood restaurant. On the menu they have fish dishes such as Lobster, Halibut, Tuna, Salmon, Swordfish, Scampi and Cod. The 'Seaman's Catch' was a 6oz Tuna steak, 6oz Swordfish steak and 6oz Salmon steak! that's 18ozs of fish steak! They also have steaks, lamb, pork, chicken and burgers, and also Fajitas! But going there you have to have the fish. It's cook so perfectly. I opted for Lobster Thermidor and Dave had a Swordfish steak, and his steak was cooked so great it was gorgeous. My Lobster was exceptionally good as well. The price of a 3 course meal plus coffees came to just over £50, not bad considering my starter and main meal was £19 total (yes Lobster was just £14 including a large salad and chips). Plus we were seated at the front of the restaurant overlooking the horizon which of course meant I got to watch the sunset which came through the clouds in time for me to see and grab a couple of photos (I'll upload tomorrow). All in all a perfect evening.

Otherwise that's been the event of the week as we've pretty much stayed in and worked solidly most of the week. We're off to Stilton, near Peterborough today, for a BBQ at my Aunt's. A long way to go yes, but my family will all be there including my parents, and a friend has kindly offered to put us up for the night, considering we would be passing his place within about 20m to get there! So hopefully the weather will stay good for the trip over and the day.

Anyone ever had a payout from them? I hit the £25 threshold back in June, and then now according to my stats page the payout date was end of July. However we're nearing end of August, and it doesn't usually take a month for a cheque to come from a UK company! I'm putting off contacting them at present as I probably need to give it a whole month to be sure, but just wondering if anyone else can comment on waiting times for them.

Something I'd been planning to do for a while and then after reading on Nothing Ventured and 45n5 I realised that Mark on 45n5 was right in saying that we read all these various blogs but don't really know much about the authors. You make assumptions about people but don't truely know a great deal about them and are often surprised when you find something out or they mention something that you wouldn't have thought of otherwise.nnAlso I guess these AIS blogs often come across as people just in it to make as much money as possible without a care about how they make that money, which I know isn't true for the blogs I read but at a glance it can sometimes seem that way. So I've written up an about page for anyone who wants to know me further :)

Today I had my first payout with Tradedoubler. Admittendly I've had the money ready for over a month but on payout date last month I didn't realise I'd not given any bank details so they could pay me! However £32 is on its way to the AIS bank account today. Unfortunately due to my missing bank details, this means the further £29 sitting in my account won't be paid out until I make another sale or signup. The £2 (from a new signup) would have not gone out last month as it hadn't cleared so I'd have met the £30 threshold both times, however now I won't which is annoying!nnStill not bad considering that £32 came from 2 signups for a Natwest Business Account and a signup to Tradedoubler. I'll be signing up to the iTunes scheme through it too considering everyone I know buys plenty of music off it, may as well make something back ;)

Things are gonna be even more quiet than usual for a week or two. Business is mad and I just got kinda let down by someone doing some work for me so that means no early nights for me for a while :( nnI can't believe August is almost over, I don't know where it's gone! Anyhow, I've not forgotten this place but I'll be quiet for a week or two. Enjoy your bank holidays :)
