Mobile Blogging

Yep that's right, blogging from the comfort of my bed with my PDA. This is truely a wireless experience!
Of course I've spent the past week getting to grips with using my PDA, getting to know what I can and cannot do with it, and reminding myself that it's not a replacement for a laptop. Earlier in the week I installed the adobe reader for mobile use on it, then took one look at a tiny pdf file and realised it looked daft. OK zooming in is the answer but I'm not a fan of horizontal scrolling so I figured I could manage without that one.
I have however installed Minimo which is Mozilla's offering of a free open source mobile browser. At present it's still in a major development phase so a lot of standard features aren't working at present, such as bookmarking, however that's easily avoided by creating a small PDA friendly page with your necessary bookmarks on, and making it your start page. I'm not intending to sit and surf all day via the PDA so it's just for a handful of sites anyhow. However Minimo does have potential, so I'll stick with it and see how it develops.
I've also downloaded a couple of FTP programs to try. Again, I'm not looking to use this for constant work, but for emergencies. I have to go to Cardiff on Friday to see a client about a new site he wants building, and so we'll be out all day. If during that time something urgent needs changing or fixing, then rather trying to guide someone over the phone to fix it, at least this way i can download the file and fix it myself. Of course these are rare issues, but they do still happen, and sods law it'll be when I'm out!
Not that I've tried it yet, but the SD card from my camera should also fit into into the PDA, which essentially means when we're away in Paris in October we could still download and upload the photos we take. Okay probably not for just a long weekend but it's still a handy option to have 
So yes I'm mobile blogging/surfing and finally catching up with my feed reading. I'm getting used to typing on a screen too. Definitely was a good choice to make.
