We went to see Miami Vice at the cinema last night. Not the film's fault but the cinema decided to show the film on one of the smaller screens, the type that are kept after the first fortnight is over. Considering the film hasn't even been out a week yet and it was a Wednesday (Orange Wednesdays – two for one n all that) the showing was absolutely packed with maybe a couple of seats spare.
However, the film… Now I never watched Miami Vice when I was younger, or if I did it clearly didn't register in my memory. So I wasn't 100% sure what to expect. I'd seen all of the trailers across TV and it looked like an action fuelled, fast paced film. And it was to an extent, however it was played quite chilled out for most of it. The action, the scenes, were all relaxed and 'cool'. Possibly trying to make the characters in the film almost ubercool. However besides this, it was a good film and I'm glad we saw it on the big screen. The plot was good even though for part of it I wondered how much time had passed and what was going on elsewhere during that time.
It definitely kept me on the edge of my seat

Yeah, that whole "ubercool" thing was definitely what the original TV series was known for. I didn't really watch the TV show regularly (maybe just an episode or two here and there), but I still knew what it was about. The movie plot had nothing to do with anything on the TV show and the characters (especially Tubbs) were played very differently, so you've not missed anything as far as that goes…
After some time (we saw it a week ago now) parts of the film still stick in my mind so I'm assuming that parts of the film were well done. Without anything to compare it with I guess I'm luckier as I don't get as much of a let down especially if TV fans were hoping to see a good big screen version.
Plus some of the music is sticking in my head too so I'll be grabbing that off iTunes
