Yes I know, another Amazon post! Dave happened to unearth a daft issue yesterday evening whilst buying some wireless headphones. He found the ones he liked, reasonable price and cheaper than sites like Argos. Instead of hitting the 'Add to Basket' he caught the 'Buy with One Click Ordering' instead. Not usually a problem as you can still go in and review the order, especially as I pointed out the One Click ordering method wouldn't give free postage and packaging. However he couldn't find the order to review and alter. Believing it hadn't gone through he started the process again but then finally got a confirmation email through. This was the point where he realised he'd ordered from a Marketplace seller and not Amazon direct.
What happened? Take a look at the product page. Here you can see Sony Headphones, yet despite Amazon having these in stock, and being on the Amazon site you'd expect they'd be the default seller, but no, the default seller is a marketplace seller. If you look at the page you'll see the default as
Availability: In stock. Dispatched from and sold by hughesdirect.
At this point I would assume Amazon didn't in fact sell these, but I'd be wrong. If you look on the right hand side you'll see the option to purchase these from Amazon. Okay, so you have to wait 1-2 weeks to get them from Amazon, but surely if you visit Amazon to purchase a product, by default the product should come from Amazon?!
Dave's now having to jump through hoops to get the seller to cancel the purchase before he gets charged. It'll be interesting what Amazon's reply on this is.

Ah, feeling reassured! I ordered for the first time through Amazon and realised that I had clicked on a market place product afterwards! (I know, I know I should read the small print!)
I ordered three stylus for my pda and a DVD (don't have time for the gym so thought I'd ease my conscience!). I paid the extra fast delivery postage and was surprised when I only got the stylus pack in the post. I'd gone and paid more on postage than I did the product and I still don't have my DVD.
Well nice ranting on a bit!
Why can't you just let the other supplier provide them?
He doesn't want to buy from a marketplace seller. The postage rates are extortionate and there's less trust there.
However that's besides the point
You shop on Amazon, you expect to purchase from Amazon whenever possible.
Couldn't agree more… i'm sure there are some good marketplace sellers out there but i'm yet to find one.
Heather, sorry my emails were a bit slow yesterday, just got your message. What you did is easily done. If you look at my other Amazon rants you'll see my Mum almost did the same thing when ordering off Dave's wishlist for his birthday. In fact I did too when ordering for his birthday, luckily for me it flagged up as not being able to be sent to his address so I could remove it.
Hope you get your DVD soon. If it's been over 3 working days then you have every right to email Amazon and request a refund.
One of the reasons I've got in to the habit of making myself go thte long way through any checkout process
I never touch one click, but I think Dave hit it accidentally too anyhow.
Amazon replied today simply saying he had to wait 3 days to hear from the seller and ignored the other issue which clearly arose. The seller also cancelled the sale so almost all is sorted. But it's still a case of pay real attention when buying off Amazon, you never know who you'll end up buying from.
Your right, its more the principle of thing. I've accidentally bought from marketplace sellers before and didn't even notice until things arrived! Shows how much attention I pay to e-mails from amazon, the checkout process is so familiar now I just go through it without reading anything – I should start
When I view it it says "Availability: In stock. Dispatched from and sold by Amazon.co.uk." – someone's changed it!
I have ordered the wrong book from market place sellers before (in the rush to get it at least a day before I need to hand in the related piece of work!) and on the two occasions it happened, they were happy to do a refund.
It probably goes by stock count or something. If Amazon doesn't have it in stock there and then it shows a third party seller instead. However if Amazon can still sell the item to you it should give you this option first! Makes better business sense in my mind!!
As for cancelling, this company did in the end but it's just not a hassle you want to go through.
