We are going to Venice for 5 days at the end of October. there is a school break here then and the cost to venice was about half the cost of going to portugal. I doubt we'd be able to rent something for just 4 days at a time though, am guessing places like those need at least 7 days. However it's a good idea for a longer stay in one place. I am not a strong craiglist user, but I must say all of the people I've contacted on there seem legit and extremely accommodating. Just check out the vacation rentals under Sicily or Naples. Unless of course you prefer hotels, then I have no real input here.
