Roundup 19/08/2007

I've spent this week a little more awake to last week. Mainly, I believe, because we finally got a mattress to fit our bed. To explain further, in April we bought a new bed from Ikea. 160cm wide, much wider than our double mattress was designed for. However after paying out around £150 for the base, slats and bedside cabinets (which are really cool as they roll in behind the bed), we couldn't really afford to pay a similar amount again for a kingsize mattress. On Monday we went into town as Dave had to get a photo he'd taken printed, as he had sold one to someone (not bad for his first week with the new DSLR!). We took the opportunity to pop into the mattress shop there and ended up buying a Kingsize version of the same one we already had for £160 including delivery. Unfortunately kingsize is 150cm wide so we do have a slight gap of a couple of inches either side, but it's minimal compared to how the double mattress was! So on Tuesday that arrived and we've finally got a much more comfortable bed, and I've slept considerably better since.
So as I was say, Dave sold a photo! It was one of his night shots of Liverpool, of one of the cathedrals. Someone wanted to buy a copy as a present for a friend getting married in there in a month or so and had obviously been searching on Flickr and found Dave's photo. Prontaprint in town did a good deal of £5 for 1 A3 plus 2 A4 versions and they all came out really nice, so nice that we're tempted to get a couple more of our favourites and put them up around the house (I have a feeling I already wrote about this, sorry if I have!!).
I set to work this week on a new site for all of our travel exploits. We've been getting plans together for Italy and I don't want to go on about them here too much. I'd already been setting up a site using WordPress MU for travel so have set up the Italy one there. I just need to finish the design before I make it known. It's a bit empty at present, I'm trying to trackback and get my posts on Scotland up at present (thankfully my memory is pretty good) plus I have my Mum's blog from Canada on there. Hopefully it'll build up into a nice little set of travel blogs. Great for family and friends to keep up with where we are when we're away.
On Friday we spent the afternoon in Liverpool. Dave had been wanting to take some photos over there and I needed to pop into an outdoor clothing shop as they had a sale on, hoping to get some walk trousers. Alas clearly people who actually need exercise are not welcomed at these places as the 1 decent looking pair out of 3 pairs of trousers I found which may have a tiny chance of fitting me, didn't. Too tight in a couple of places and stupidly too loose everywhere else. All of my trousers at present come from BHS, jeans, tracksuit trousers and smart trousers. Unfortunately BHS don't do walking trousers! It was a bit of a let down especially as I take a size lower in BHS compared to the size I was trying on in this outdoor clothing shop
Ironically if I had comfortable clothes and went out walking most weekends, I wouldn't have this problem. My exercise at present involves walking downstairs and sitting at a computer all day. I walk upstairs a couple of times during the day and then in the evening to go to bed. However, we also spent this week finally clearing up our spare room which had been set up as an office but never used as one. More a dumping ground really. So we dismantled the desk, tidied away the excess computers (there's 5 in there!) and got the rowing machine down and in there. I'm attempting to get back into a routine of rowing, trampetting and generally spending at least half an hour a day doing some exercise.
So, I've gone off track… we were in Liverpool on Friday. Luckily the weather held off for the time we were there unlike for the rest of the weekend. I'm so fed up of this rain.
