The Week That Was 14/10/2007
Sun, 14 October, 2007 – 7:02 pm
This week has been quite interesting. Besides work (which is usually interesting but a bit boring at times), we've had postal strikes throughout the UK and some of my more clever clients posted payments to me (why can't the country just use internet banking?!). Thankfully one was considerate enough to go into a branch of my bank and pay their cheques directly into my bank account. This is a client I would like to keep!
I've been busy this week spending my spare time tweaking and customising the new theme for the site. Thankfully this one was a lot easier to alter and didn't take me long to tweak to fit my various sections into. Again, a big thanks to Arun for the theme.
We had the pest control man in on Tuesday to deal with the mouse problem. He's laid down about 5 special boxes filled with stronger poison, and he's due back this Tuesday. We've not seen any poison taken in a few days now so hopefully that's the end of the problem! We've still not really put much out on the sides again, the toaster and kettle is there and that's about it. At least I'm a little more relaxed about going into the kitchen now.
Tuesday evening we went up to see some friends and caught up for the evening. They've all started going to kickboxing and now that there's a women only session started I decided that I fancied going along with my friend. It's only an hour on a Monday, but for the time being that'll be enough for me! I've been wanting to do kickboxing for years but the only option I'd found was one of the gyms in Cardiff when I lived there. At £36 a month gym fee plus a further £4 per session of kickboxing I felt it was a bit much (and no one wanted to go with me!). Still, imagine me tomorrow night, about 18:10, I'll be lying on the floor begging to go home!
On Friday we finally got the call we'd been predicting for the past month. Our landlady phoned to say we had to move out as she wanted to leave her boyfriend and move back into her house. She gave us 2 months notice but we're hoping to move before that as 2 months is a week before Christmas! (Yes, sorry but it's not that far away!!). I'm so glad we've spent the last month already looking at properties and working out our options. We've currently got a potential house in a quiet area, 3 bedrooms plus garage and driveway, at a reasonable price and rented through the boss of a friend so no extortionate estate agent fees! From what we know about it, it ticks every box, so we just need to actually see inside it and then we can offer rent and bond, sign a contract and finally have a moving date to look forward to. We've also been put onto someone else who does property management, a friend of a friend, so if this one falls through we can also see what she can offer us. Tomorrow we'll get to speak to both and can maybe get a clearer view of what's going on and what we can do to get things rolling. At least we don't need to worry about giving the landlady notice any more, in once sense it makes things easier for us as it means we can move sooner and she shouldn't try to get any extra rent out of us.
Yesterday we decided to take a day out of the house and so drove up to Anglesey for the afternoon. We drove to an RSPB area on the far side of Holyhead. For those of you who don't know, Anglesey is an island off the north west tip of Wales. It's about 90 minutes drive from us which isn't too bad. Unfortunately it was out of season at the South Stack where we went, so there was no one around besides a few ramblers, no cafe open and just a couple of crows and that was it! I was hoping to see a few puffins
Still, we'll probably go back there in the summer when it should be swarming with birds. It was quite peaceful up there however.
Today I've just spent the morning doing some work and the afternoon packing. I've run out of empty boxes now so I'll have to get some more from my parents at the end of the week. At least a fair amount of stuff has been packed which will save time when we finally come to move. I found a further 2 box of videos for our car boot sale too, so we need to get that done soon as I think we have a car full, not just the boot!
So, that's the week that was. Now how am I going to last an hour of exercise tomorrow night?

Your drive sounds nice, despite the low activity, I'm sure it was a nice way to wind down.

It was a nice place we went to, just a shame the weather wasn't better. Apparently I went there when I was very young according to my Mum. It's strange to think I returned to the same place without realising it!

I hope the mice have packed their bags and departed for good
How did the kickboxing go?

Well the pest bloke was back yesterday and found his poison eaten in the loft the most so that's where they were hiding out. He reckons they're pretty much dead and potentially there was another 3. Yuk, I hate this thought. Thank god we're away today until Saturday in a mouse free house at my parents!
Sam, the kickboxing was good, the days after have not been so good as I ache still, plus I've pulled something I think (minorly) in my left leg as it hurts a lot more than my right one! However I survived the hour, did everything that all the fit, slim people did, and so I'm pretty chuffed with that. Just have to keep it going and hopefully I can start to see some improvements in fitness and weight

Glad you survived the kickboxing
I bet Dave will be careful about arguing back with you now

I hope Dave reads your comment
