eBook Content

It's easier when you know the subject, but if you want an eBook on an obscure subject which you know nothing about where do you go for your content? I know a few people reading this site have sold eBooks, possibly on subjects they don't know much on. Any pointers? I don't know if people would appreciate me just scouring the web for the various articles and information on Wikepedia and free article sites, or whether I could even sell an eBook with content from these free resources. I'm usually fairly good at rewriting other people's content (I learnt that using book answers for my A'Level homework!) however when it's a subject I don't know then it gets harder possibly and will most likely take a lot longer.nnAny thoughts or suggestions on where I could go?

I'm not sure you'd be able to use the articles sites articles for eBooks - one usually does not have the right to change those articles…I know if I bought an eBook consisting of a bunch of articles I'd be claiming a refund…nnYou could try the PLR article providers or try the NicheTastic range (aff link in my blog ;)).nnDo you have a particular subject in mind?

That's what I figured about selling free content.nnThe subjects are fairly obscure, for example one is about food preserving (which I won't be going ahead with!), another is country crafts. I guess it's the type of stuff you don't find easily on the web hence it's niche.nnI wouldn't mind knowing a bit more on the PLR or NicheTastic if you think they have more obscure info like this and it could go into an eBook. The eBook isn't essential, I may just look at good content a few adsense and some affiliate links if I can find a book site (besides Amazon) with a good affiliate system.

The NT package has the following subjects:nnStress Reduction, Raising Abandoned Kittens, Design Psychology, Is He Cheating on Me?, Anti Aging Nutrition, Natural Dog, Pet Loss, Nursing Home Decision.nnSo that's not what you need, but might spark some ideas.nnI've had a look through my PLR articles and found nothing on either country crafts or food preserving. Possibly your best bet would be to purchase an out-of-date copyright book and copy the info ? Possibly "Mrs Beetons" or something like that (assuming it is outwith copyright)…

Thanks Burt for your comments. No the NT package doesn't cover anything on my list. The out of copyright option is an idea but then of course out of copyright means no modern techniques.nnI think perhaps for now just set up a site using free content and see how well it goes. If it seems worthwhile visitor wise then perhaps just read up and learn the subject and then write a small eBook on it. Alternatively find someone who knows the subject to write one along with the resell rights.

Sarah,nnI would have thought that although you obviously can't cut and paste the contents of various articles in an e-book, you could certainly read the articles along with wikipedia and any other relevant sources and then condense it down into one "handy" resource.nnAs long as you re-wrote and summarised the content in your own words and with extra thoughts of your own interspersed throughout, this should be OK?nnTom

Hey Tom, that was another thought, providing I can make the content unique and rewrite it enough. Afterall most books just say the same thing! I'm sure people are just after a cheap handy reference if they're searching on eBooks, and nothing big and hefty.

Sarah,nnProject Guttenberg [sp] has a wide selection of public domain information.nIf you have a domain for the food preserving project (and you no longer plan on using it) I might be interested - or maybe a Joint Venture?nnPeter

Hi Peter, no I haven't bought a domain for food preserving. Besides jam, I know nothing about preserving!nnThanks for the info on project gutternberg however, I'll take a look at that some time
