AdSense in rapid decline
November 8, 2006 – 9:29 pm
Despite some sites still doing okay with AdSense, our main site has dropped in visitors and subsequently in adsense income, which is to be expected. However my own Food and Drink Blog which used to make $1-2 a day is now making less than that a week despite the visitor numbers climbing. According to Google however, the impressions for the ads on this site equal less than 10% of the page views registered on the server. I can only assume this is down to people running various ad blockers which are blocking the AdSense ads.
Still, at the same time the blog has been accepted into the Text Link Ads so hopefully I'll get some links sold on it and make more money off it that way. Until then it's just a case of continue to add good content and hopefully continue to increase my visitors.

I run a couple of Adsense sites and I'm starting to wonder about their impression reporting. I also use Google Anayltics to keep track of my hits and I have daily descrpencies between the hits and impressions. Text links may be the way to go.

Google's reporting never seems spot on for either AdWords or AdSense, but now the impressions are even further off it does make me wonder if AdSense blindness isn't just because people are used to it but they're running software that just happens to block it. I'm sure Norton's AV probably blocks the ads by now as well, so even people are unknowingly blocking it.

I recently applied to TLA for my blog, but was told I don't have enough backlinks. Google shows 20 (other big two show hundreds), but shows 0 for your food and drink blog.
Did the approval process go smoothly for you?

I applied ages ago for my other blog when it was running under the domain dietspot.co.uk. The day the PR update came about a few weeks back it went to a PR 4 and my TLA was approved. I've since changed the domain however I've contacted TLA on this and they were happy to update the domain for me.
Even though you've been refused now, in a month or two you'll possibly just get an email out of the blue saying you've been accepted, however I've usually found with PR4+ they're accepted instantly.

This is interesting. My AdSense earnings started dropping rapidly despite increased traffic a few months ago (I actually reported this on my site). Also, the impressions were so low compared to my daily visitors - I also speculated that adblocking software might be killing my impressions.
I've had nothing but good times with TLA, however. They also rejected one of my blogs at one point for low traffic, but then the traffic went up and they suddenly emailed that it was approved. I'm making more in a month with TLA than I ever made in a year with AdSense.

Hey Sapphire, yes I've seen this decline over the past couple of months. In the summer we were hitting the $100 every month whereas for October the same site made just $35. However others have reported a rise in earnings so I guess it depends on the subject of the site and the visitors it attracts.
Thanks for stopping by, nice blog by the way

I'm not in a "rapid" decline, but definitely a steady decline this month.
Cause: Visitors down across most sites.
You win some you lose some.
