Bit of a Move Around
August 19, 2007 – 2:23 pm
I've had a little move around on this site (again). I've been contemplating using the Top Commentators plugin for about 6 months or so now. I downloaded it ages ago but then wondered how to implement it. Before I had all of the sites I linked to on the sidebar and subsequently on every page. Top Commentators is designed to give those who leave a few extra comments a little added linkage, so anyone in my reading listing already wouldn't notice much difference, plus I wondered if too many outgoing links on every page was a good idea. Afterall, I guess people are coming hear to read my thoughts and see my stuff, not just a list of links. So I've moved these over to a new Links page, plus I've updated the list from my feedreader with a few more sites that I read on a daily basis.
I've also reduced the recent comments to 5. I think 10 was a bit too many and let's be fair, this site doesn't get a whole load of comments so they don't seem to change as often, 5 is a little less overpowering. But then I had a gap left by the external links. Recently I found another plugin, Most Commented Posts which now displays the 5 posts with the most comments on. I was quite suprised to see that most of them are over a year old! Whether people want to see and maybe read old posts or not I don't know but I've seen it on other sites and I think it's more ideal for new visitors who may find an interesting post from the archives. I don't bother listing my archives here, they take up too much space and if you go into the categories you'll get the posts listed in order and in blocks per year anyhow.
I've also finally taken the chance to upgrade WordPress to 2.2.2 which I've been to do for a while (usually this means that tomorrow the next version will be released as that usually happens to me!!).
Everything seems to be working, I've made sure I've not broken the comments this time, but as always, please let me know if something seems wrong ![]()

It's all broken!
Only kidding
The most commented plugin is a good idea if it helps to bump older content back up to the surface. If it was good then, likelihood is that it'll still be good now!

I just upgraded one of my blogs today myself. I'm always a couple weeks behind and yeah, they will probably release another update tomorrow…sigh

I have 5 personal sites to upgrade and 8+ client sites to upgrade, however I'll be teaching someone else how to upgrade this week and they'll take care of it in the future! Probably much more reliable than me
Still, at least it's easy to upgrade so I can't complain
