Make Money from Rubbish

Not quite AIS but it is about making money. With having to move house we've started to look at stuff to dump. I've got an old P90 Computer (90 MHz Pentium Processor) in the kitchen waiting to be taken to the dump, afterall who wants a P90 these days? I've got around 50 videos that are never watched and take up far too much space. Books read and probably won't be read again, various other computer parts such as old keyboards, mice, RAM etc. After chatting to a friend the other night she told me how she'd made around £100 ($200) on selling what she considered old rubbish at a car boot sale.nnNot sure if non UKers would know what a car boot sale is so to quickly explain, you gather in a field on an early sunday morning, lay out your various stuff to sell and people will visit the sale and maybe pay X amount for a few items. The idea is that it all comes out of your car boot (or trunk for the US visitors among us!).nnSo I've taken stock of what we have and will be sorting out a box or two of 'rubbish' and am hoping to sell a load of it one weekend before we move. I may not make a great deal but for a few hours of sitting down, drinking coffee and eating bacon sandwiches, it could be worth it! Considering I was going to dump the P90, anything made on that would be great!nnJust a sidenote. Today is the first day I've been home all day. We're still property viewing and trying to cover all our work too, so spare time is spent asleep pretty much. Posting will be a little thin until I've packed and moved. But hopefully it won't take too much longer. Have a good weekend :)

  3. Oh sorry! A P90 is a computer with a 90 MHz Pentium Processor. Sorry, I clearly didn't get the idea of it being a computer into the post!nnUpdated the post to reflect this now :D

  4. Ouh. I suspected it was that one, just that I didn't wanna make a fool of myself. :D The P90 sentence was followed by 50 videos so I thought it might be a VCR or something else. A google on P90 returned a machine gun. :P So hey, who knows you own one.nnAhh, I miss those old computers a bit. A Pentium 90 could still run Windows 95 and might run Windows 98. :D

  5. It came with win95 and it has win98 on it. I've also upgraded the RAM to possibly 64MB from 16MB (I can't remember how much I put in now). I realised it'd be fine for someone to buy say a 10 year old to have a play on, they could do a fair amount on it afterall I used to work on a similar standard machine at University.

  6. Yeah, in the states they are called trunk sales but I don't see them very often. Garage sales are much more common, but you usually have a lot more to sell than just a few items there.

  7. One mans rubbish is another mans gold…nnI picked up a roof-rack and cycle carrier this past week. £2 for the roof-rack. £15 for the cycle carrier. Would have cost me over £80 brand new!

  8. Sara, downside to a garage sale is surely less exposure than a car boot sale? Of course I'm just guessing. We don't have a garage anyway :D We do have a fair bit to sell, I need to spend a couple of hours going through it all and convincing Dave of what he doesn't need to hold on to ;)nnGary, £2 for a roof rack is fantastic! I could do with getting one of those. I'll assume you're going further afield with the biking then. We've got a cycle carrier but with all the rain this summer we've not actually used it yet! Really want to go cycling around Snowdonia, or ideally down it ;)

  9. Damn. I checked out the price of Thule roof racks and cycle carrier the other day and it costs WAY more than £80. :) Nice deal!

  10. That's the second time today I've read about Thule roof racks. Never heard of them before! But then again I used to have a Smart (well still do if anyone wants to buy it!) and that couldn't take a roof rack.nnWhat's so good about Thule?

By Sarah on Sep 15, 2007

  11. I have no idea. It's more like Thule being the only brand I found so far.

By goldfries on Sep 15, 2007

  12. Ahh okay. I guess if it's a top brand it's going to be everywhere.

  13. Yeah, Thule ("too lay" apparently) is the best brand of Rack. The roof rack bit isn't Thule, it's a cheapy brand (can't remember the brand name). But the bike bit is a Thule, hence a bargain at £15.
