Have Your AdSense Figures Dropped?

Anyone reading the typical AIS blogs will have come across the news about the recent changes to AdSense in the form of reducing the clickable area on the advert from the entire advert to just the title and link (if it's displayed) being clickable (see knupNET for the hotspot areas as an image).nnSo how has your earnings, or more accurately, your click through rate, changed? I've just done a quick comparison of the 1st to the 13th November, and then from the 14th until yesterday (21st). I've chosen the 14th as that is the day that JenSense announced the change so I can only assume it was in force at that point. The difference? Not much really. For the first 2 weeks of the month we had an average CTR of 9.55% and for the past week this has been 9.4%. So as you can see, the change hasn't made much of an impact this month so far. Compared to last month we're down 1% on CTR however we've been on a steady decline since we had to change the look of the ads back in September.nnAnyone else seen much effect after this change?

  2. Sarah, I think the people who will be most affected by this are the people who have their sites laid out in a way as to attract a lot of "accidental" clicks.

  5. Sara, we'll be lucky if we hit the $100 threshold on Dave's account that a few months ago was almost hitting $200 a month.

  6. Sarah, I noticed a small drop on my main blog, because I completely removed it! haha… but my other product based blogs/sites haven't had a discernable drop at all.nnI figure that the majority of people that click on those ads do so with either a. no knowledge that it's not your website or b. something caught their eye. Accidental clicks are few and far between.

  7. Removing AdSense will usually have a negative effect on your earnings! ;)nnI reckon a lot of people who are clicking those ads would still be clicking the title or link anyway, which are the areas that are still linked. However it would be interesting to know id someone who earns a fair amount from AdSense has noticed much difference. Afterall, the more you earn the more you have to lose.

  8. Stu (1 comment), just dug your comment out of Akismet again. What have you been up to?! I wonder if I can just get your comments to completely bypass it…nnAnyway, you're right, it will affect those after the accidental clicks, but even then, most people will still click the title as that's usually the link coloured part (depending on the ad colours of course).nnLuckily this month we just made the $100 threshold. I can't see us managing next month however.
