New Google Ad?

Google Ad I may not be on the ball here, so forgive me if this is old, but I noticed this on one my sites today. On the ad shown left, you'll notice up and down arrows below the ad in the bottom left. Spotting this I decided to click it to see what would happen. It then allowed me to scroll through 5 different adverts. I've also got a single ad elsewhere on the same page but that didn't have this feature, however one is a small horizontal banner and the one in the image is a 125*125 button.

It's quite a cool feature although I wonder if it's that noticeable. Also, my reason for putting one advert there was because the highest paying ad would be shown, if there are 5 there I presume it goes into the order of payment, which means I could lose out if they don't click the highest earning ad. But then again, it's not like they make much these days anyway ;)

    Hi Sarah,

I'd seen these in the wild on selected sites over the last couple of months, and they'd been mentioned by a few bloggers.

I think Google's just rolled them out to all sites now, there's no sites showing AdSense ads that I've come across that AREN'T showing these now.

Just goes to show how much attention I pay to Google Ads on sites! Cheers Stu

Quite a clever idea though I doubt the majority of visitors will even think about clicking on the arrows to see more ads!

If the first ad doesn't catch their attention then they will just ignore it.

That was my thought too Mike, clearly as I've missed noticing this!

I've noticed it on a few of my sites now, be interesting to know how much they are actually clicked on to view more adverts!

I doubt we'll never see those stats. It would be interesting, however I think as Mike said, most users wouldn't think of clicking on the arrows, and those that would wouldn't click the ads anyway.

Slightly unrelated, but have you seen the new Adsense feature where you can see who is targetting your site with placement ads? Extra info on it is at http://www.google.com/adsense/.....opic=13522

Set it up the other day and its really interesting to see which advertisers are specifically targetting your site with Adsense ads…

Cheers HB, I'll take a look at that. I don't think I have any targeted ads though, however it's always nice to have a look :)

All these great ideas for getting revenues from your website but to get revenue you need visitors! That's really where I'm struggling. Sarah how hard do you find it to write so many unique posts to draw in traffic?

Mike, on this section of the site (AIS blog) I don't find it as easy besides the standard monthly 'this is how much I made' post. I don't really have new information to report and don't like to just sit and repeat what's already been said elsewhere. But this is a pretty small niche really, as stuff gets done or good things happen I'll write about them.

On my other blog it covers more subjects, photography, development, blogging, business plus one personal roundup a week. It's easier to write on this one.

Once I've got a subject in my head then I can usually ramble on for a while about it, sometimes it's just remembering to get the subjects down on paper and then writing up the posts.
