Make Money Blogging - Text Link Ads

You want to blog and try and make a bit of income too? There are a variety of sources available to make money from which I'll explain and go into in separate posts. The first is Text Link Ads. Simply put, they are unobtrusive ads in the form of a list of text links that can site on one or several pages of your site. You control the colour, the look and even who advertises! Yes after signing up you submit your site and get the code to put on your own site. Then advertisers can view your site and decide if they want to advertise their link on it. If so they contact Text Link Ads and TLA then contact you with the proposed advertiser which you can choose to allow or refuse to be on your site. The links are not javascript, they're normal run of the mill links so anyone with a reasonable PR could do well with this scheme as the advertisers will take that into account as well.
These are not pay per click ads. If the ad link is on your site you are getting paid for it. It's the modern version of the banner advertisement and much more professional looking, especially when you get to control who's displayed. You could be making up to $50 a month off your site with some simple text links, and they supply the code and help for adding the code to Blogger and Typepad blogs along with PHP code to suit most other blog scripts. Very easy to use and hey, if you don't get any links then it doesn't cost you anything!

I hate those things, but then I've no need/want to earn any money on my blog. They're far from unobtrusive, at least for me - I just find them really annoying.
In other news, I made 59 cents from my Newsvine column in June. Hurrah!

Hmm I'd say they're unobtrusive. A few links sitting next to your normal site links, don't really stick out like a sore thumb. I guess it depends how people style them or where they place them.
Take ProBlogger for example. He has ads all over his site but the site is still designed well to work around them. And hey, if you could make 6 figures blogging I'm sure you'd like to make money from your blog then?

Ads? What ads?
Adblock and Noscript make sure that my interweb experience is almost entirely ad-free, something I actually feel quite guilty about on occasions. I would actually like to click the odd ad on some sites to help with costs, but as I can't see them it kind of buggers that idea up.
It's true, if I was a pro blogger I'd have adverts up too. I'd make the effort to ensure that they were relevant and didn't upset the design of the site but I definitely would NOT use text link ads - not a fan at all.

Each to their own
I've not noticed text link ads to be put off by them. However they're only on my money making sites so nothing you'd ever visit anyhow

Hi Ray,
Sorry for not replying sooner, it's been one of those… well… fortnights!
You may be more interested to read the posts on my AIS blog at http://ais.sarahfreelance.co.uk as it's probably more in tune with blogging for money. As for selling premium content, well it depends on the site. I certainly wouldn't put it on an established site such as this, as being a reader of another site which does that, I found it annoying and stopped reading.
I'm not really in agreement with premium content on blogs. I think a small bit of advertising or affiliate links where appropriate should/can suffice. To me blogging is about freedom of expression, freedom of content, and employing a premium content service changes that. If your blog is primarily set up to offer premium content then it can be taken different, but to start using the method on an established blog is probably not a good idea.
