The Week That Was

This week's gone quick. I felt like I'd been on the go all week until Friday hit. On Monday we picked up the new car. First stop was Halfords for some car mats! Once settled in the car I started to get quite comfortable driving it home. I would have been quite ready to go and have a drive around but it was rush hour and I'd also spent all afternoon out of the house so I figured I should go and catch up on my work for the day! We did take the car out on Wednesday as we drove over to Liverpool to see Dave's sister. I'm still working out everything on the car and finding out what buttons to press etc. but so far I'm pretty happy with the purchase. It's a nice smooth ride and that extra horsepower gives you the knowledge that you can put your foot down and move away from a dangerous situation quickly (such as where two lanes go into one and the guy on your outside doesn't go in front or behind you!). When we were down in Chester on Monday getting the car we picked up some presents for Christmas as well. We've got about half the presents needed now and we're dragging Dave's niece out on Wednesday to help us with the others!

Work has started to ease down this week even more. I have a couple of new sites starting, and am finally managing to finish off a site I've been working on for months. Client delays has caused it to run for so long and then every time they're ready I'm too busy and they've lost their slot. It's hard to work when you have problems like this. I could have had this site finished last year except they just stopped everything for 6 months when in theory I could have done everything apart from a couple of pages! However when clients start to delay constantly it concerns you as to whether they're going to pay up at the end or not. However at least Christmas is looking relaxed at the moment and I'm putting everyone else off until next year.

You can find Dave and I in Issue 36 of Practical Web Design that's due out in the next week. We've both written articles/tutorials for the magazine, but unfortunately this is the last issue of the magazine due to Future publishing closing it down. Shame, I enjoyed writing the tutorial. Ah well, maybe another mag editor may see my wonderful article and hire me ;)

  2. Happy New Year to you and Dave!

You'll love Italy and I'm quite jealous that you're going to be driving around the country. Be aware, though, that the Italians are mad nutters behind the wheel and the further south you get the worse they are. Naples is supposed to be the worse City in mainland Italy, but wherever you go make sure that you have good insurance and roadside recovery.

It's a while off but both myself and Nige have been to Rome so I'm sure that DDN might be able to suggest a few places to visit ;¬)

Anyway, have a great new Year!

  3. Yeah I've been to Merano in North Italy for the day with my parents, I can vaguely remember sitting in the back of the car and hearing my Dad constantly swearing and getting lost!

I'm hoping to not have to drive too much within the actual cities as we'd just park up and leave the car somewhere for the time we're there. I'm not sure if my breakdown cover free with the car will cover Europe but if not I'll probably get some cover just to be on the safe side.
