It's been a nice week this week. The weather's been good, not too hot but not raining, meaning I can get the various things done that I need sunny weather for! I've had a pretty relaxing week this week with work too. Besides a few updates elsewhere, and my usual work for my contact, I've mainly been working on a photo gallery for a client of mine who's a pro photographer. His new gallery is now live, and I'm just left with the admin work to do. I did his original gallery but since he wanted to change the design I figured it was a good time to revamp the code. Some of it was simply never used so isn't needed, and some was the non-logical thinking on my part about 3 years ago when I first set it up for him! I learnt along the way how to give his uploaded image a faded effect with PHP too, so that's handy to know for the future.
We've spent most of this week reading about photography. The book I bought Dave - The Digital Photography Book is actually pretty good for people like me who a: doesn't have a DSLR and b: doesn't understand enough to really get to grips with all the technicalities of using a camera yet. The book is full of so many tips and ideas, and I'm only on chapter 4! At £8 it's worth the money that's for sure. Dave got his DSLR this week, a second hand Canon EOS 10D. By going second hand it meant he could budget better for a couple of decent lenses and other equipment. With the borrowing of his brother-in-law's tripod, he's now pretty much good to go! So we spent yesterday morning, out in the beautiful sun, taking photos along the Mersey, in the woods and by the Manchester Ship Canal (photos at Flickr). It was a nice morning out, especially in the woods when the sun got a little too uncomfortable.
First we went up to by the Mersey at a place called Eastham. Took a wander around Eastham woods, and then drove down to the Boat Museum which is where the Shropshire Union canal and Manchester Ship canal meet. We happened to spot a Coffee Shop / Restaurant there so decided to grab a quick cold drink as we'd run out of water. After looking at the menu we decided to stop for lunch. The restaurant was called Jabula and is a South African restaurant. After playing safe with a standard burger (that came with more toppings than I've ever seen!) we'll still be trying the more ethnic African food of Crocodile and Springbok at some point, seems first visit will be one night this week!
