Roundup 16/09/2007

It's Sunday again which is the time for the weekly roundup. This week has been stressful to say the least. I've already mentioned various bits throughout the week but to sum it up, last Sunday evening our Landlady phoned to say her boyfriend was on his way round to give us our notice, a few days after I'd cleared everything with her to stay on in the house despite our housemate moving out. This of course knocked me for six as it was completely unexpected. He never came and she phoned again to ask if she'd been. They've been having arguments etc. Whilst I feel sorry for her it didn't make us feel very secure in being able to live here with the threat of us being given notice each time they argue too much. So I started searching the websites for somewhere to live.

We had a few house views last week. The first being in a road where almost every house was boarded up. Not really my kind of place! We also took a look at a couple more and realised that we'd have to pay a fair bit more a month to get somewhere similar to where we are now, along with unbelieveable agency fees before we'd even moved! So the holiday to Italy has been put on hold until we sort everything out, as the savings for that could be spent simply on moving home. In once sense I'm thankful that we do have those savings as we'd both sink into debt otherwise. We did see a house we quite liked however it was more than our budget, and although the Estate agent said she could probably get the owner to reduce the rent we've not heard back so I guess that's a No. We have another viewing tomorrow for a place with a garage, in a fairly quiet area just a little North East of where we are now. However I'm not holding out on it as it's a good price for a 3 bedroom house plus garage, plus there's been interest in it, so why hasn't it been snapped up yet?! Makes you wonder. Still we'll wait and see. I'm really not sure what to do as regards to moving. The landlady called on Friday to say she'd be round (but never came) and that everything was okay with the house now however we're both still unsettled by it all. We don't want to move (although a garage or driveway would be good!) but I'm just not sure what the best course of action is.

Besides all that, people at the place I contract for all suddenly took an interest in their websites (one per department) and so I was inundated with work last week too. Perfect timing! We also spent one evening round at friends who got me interested in doing a car boot sale from everything we really didn't need or use, rather than throwing most of it out. I've realised that we could make a nice little sum, and after last night of going through everything we've already got about 5 boxfuls! I've got a fair bit of stuff down at my parents house too (where we're off to Wednesday evening for a couple of days) so I'll pick a few more bits up and then we'll just have to plan a Sunday to go to one.

That was about all we did this week! Work and house hunt. We did go to a pub quiz on Monday evening and came third. Not bad for just the 2 of us who don't watch the news, or much TV besides NCIS and CSI (and Heroes!). It all sounds a bit boring despite the fact that it feels like it's been a really busy week and I'm just shattered. Guess it's all this leaving the house malarky. We don't tend to go out very often!
